Navigating War:
The Role of Parents in Supporting Youth Resilience via Social Media
Can adolescents use social media in a healthy way during war-time? And what can parents do to support a positive use of social media?
Following the October 2024 events in Israel, parents and educators were worried about the exposure of youth to difficult contents on social media. Literature indeed suggests that social media may posed dangers to the well-being of adolescents. However, it may also offer them opportunities to cope, by providing social support, information, distraction, etc. In this study, we investigate the different ways adolescents use social media, and its association with their well-being, social and academic functioning. We also investigate how effective are different strategies of parental support in promoting protective social media use.
